A registered nurse or licensed practical nurse with a current license
who is willing to actively participate in continuing education programs
relating to parish nursing.
Willing to support the health and healing mission/ministry of the church.
Has experience in communication and teaching techniques.
Has the knowledge and ability to promote and practice a holistic health philosophy.
Is knowledgeable of health promotion as it relates to lifestyles.
Must have current knowledge of nursing and general health issues.
Is knowledgeable of and willing to comply with the Code of Ethics of Nursing and (state) Nurse Practice Act.
Is actively involved in the church and the community.
Must be able to practice confidentiality and apply professional standards.
Must be willing to work and relate with the pastoral team, elders, and others involved in the congregational health ministry.
Should have at least two years of clinical experience, preferably in
one or more of the following areas: public health,
medical/surgical, emergency, outpatient, or home health nursing.
Parish Nurse Roles:
A screener for existing or potential health problems
Promoter of the integration of body, mind and spirit.
A patient advocate
Trainer, developer, and coordinator of support group leaders and volunteers
Educator and health counselor
A source of referral to community supports and services.
